REMINISCENCE – FABIENNE STADNICKA
Time rarely leaves things untouched. It alters, erases, transforms. Yet in the work of Fabienne Stadnicka, this slow disappearance becomes a form of revelation. From rusted metal sheets emerge silent figures, fragile presences suspended between memory and erasure. Matter is no longer a simple surface. It becomes the very place where remembrance survives. For many years, the artist has developed a body of work deeply connected to trace, corrosion and persistence. Rust appears here as a living memory, inscribed into metal through time itself. Stadnicka intervenes only minimally on these weathered surfaces, allowing their wounds, fractures and vibrations to speak first.
“I let the corrosion of the metal speak louder than the oil.” The figures emerge with a quiet softness. Some seem to belong to another century, while others already fade into the tears and voids of the metal. Nothing remains fixed. Bodies drift through an unstable, almost organic materiality where ochre, copper and shadow compose a painting of presence rather than narration.
With Reminiscence, the artist continues her exploration of buried memory. Each work feels like a recovered fragment, a remnant rescued from disappearance. The empty spaces carved by corrosion become just as meaningful as the painted forms themselves. They create silences, absences and openings through which the viewer’s gaze can wander freely. Within this tension between disappearance and permanence, Fabienne Stadnicka creates a profoundly human work. A work in which time is never resisted, but embraced. Here, rust does not merely consume matter. It reveals what still remains alive within it.
