Claire Roger
Through this work of precision pushed to its climax, Claire Roger weaves the clay with extreme delicacy, which she cuts into thin strips. This technique, which she naturally develops from the very beginning, explains why her work is so rare. Then begins a whole process of stratification, of crossing, but also of repetition. This ritual of calligraphic precision, pushes us to contemplate these works whose finesse combined with the work of form, invites us to dream.
Claire Roger's earthenware pieces contain a whole world. Going through the details that punctuate each corner of these curiosities, the viewer immediately becomes aware of the meticulous work that is at stake. This "graphic adventure" as she likes to call it, has continued to evolve over the course of her artistic research and is rooted in this desire to pay tribute to the earth. Indeed, it is above all a question of taking the earth at its founding principles, to color it and to compose a whole melody of colors.
A true invitation to a journey, Claire Roger's works reveal an intimacy around the material. As Jean Jacquinot formulates it, "it is in little space, the art to contain much time". Approaching these objects is similar to a discovery of a whole world containing mysterious evocations that seem to come from ancient civilizations. Inheritance of the past, these works bring us back to these tales and legends of our childhood, sometimes read or imagined, they give us reasons to dream.
