Paul’s pictorial universe often suggests solitude and the loss of points of reference. His unusual perspectives evoke a reassuring sense of otherness, elsewhere… They have a certain grace. The tones appear timeless. Yet, nature is not hostile, despite the darkness of the paintings. The observer is invited to reflect, to dwell on a memory, an emotion.
Like the romantic painters, Paul draws on his subconscious. He evokes the inner self to create a universal terra incognita. By following different byways, he imagines new horizons, seeking to generate an emotion, to grasp what the world has lost: a transient original state.
