CORTEGE – CHRISTOPHE ABADIE

2024, October 11th November 23rd

Relentlessly, they walk. In which direction? Toward what destination? Impossible to say. In a perpetual quest for escape, painter Christophe Abadie takes us along in the footsteps of anonymous travelers—men, women, and children seemingly carried by the wind—capturing in a continuous flow these silhouettes with uncertain faces, rushing under vast skies. Are they moving for pleasure? Are they departing or returning? What are they seeking to flee from? While all scenarios are considered, the artist chooses to depict a vulnerable yet united humanity, moving together as a group toward this unknown horizon.

From dawn to dusk, the painter captures the calligraphy of bodies, sweeping through the secrets of universal trajectories, immortalizing in the same movement the fleeting and transient motion of a world on the move, overwhelmed by the immensity of a sky far too vast. Faced with the vertigo instilled by this duty to move forward, the exhibition invites us to pause, to observe, and to take the time to contemplate the details of a silent poetry. We escape our familiar markers, letting our thoughts wander alongside this procession caught in a whirlwind of colorful clouds, before finally finding our way back home.
